This is as good as it gets; featuring Dan Pallotta

This is as good as it gets by dan pallotta via surprisinglives.net

Dan Pallotta is a well-known speaker, author, and charity fundraiser. Deepak Chopra says the following about Dan;

“DAN PALLOTTA IS THE EMBODIMENT OF AUTHENTICITY, INTEGRITY, COURAGE AND HIGHER CALLING. HE IS A ROLE MODEL FOR ANYONE WHO WHO WANTS TO EMBARK ON THE ADVENTURE OF PERSONAL AND SOCIETAL TRANSFORMATION.”

In tune with the above endorsement, Dan shared a post recently that stopped me short.

Someone asked me to write a 250-word letter to my younger self for some blog. Here it is:

31 July, 2019

Dearest Danny,

I’m speaking to you from the future (more on that in a moment) and someone has asked me to write you a letter. I wasn’t planning on being in touch because, well, I didn’t want to mess with the whole natural order of things, you know? I’d say I hope you are well, but me being you, I know that you are and you are not. I know exactly what it’s like to be inside that head of ours. I hope you take some comfort in that — that there’s at least one other person out there who really gets you. I have a few pieces of career and relationship advice to give you but I’m not going to because that would mess up your chance to learn the lessons on your own. All I have to say are these three things: First, you make it to at least 58 years, six months and ten days. Second, I’m not sure the whole destiny thing that they play up in the movies is all it’s cut out to be. Too much pressure. And third, it isn’t any better or worse this far down the road. Life is life. This is it. This is as good as it ever gets. There’s nothing to figure out. The future is a total scam — a hoax. It doesn’t exist. It’s always now. So, I’m actually writing to you from now — the same now you’re in and will always be, so enjoy life now, right now. It’s all there is. – Dan Pallotta

The highlighted passage is the one that resonated so loudly for me. We focus so much on the future and how it will be or should be, how we want it to be, we forget about today and all the tiny but brilliant things that make now as good as it gets.

Thanks for sharing this reminder, Dan.

    Wow. Can you imagine if people actually took that onboard. It would probably be the death knell of consumer society as we know it. 👍👍
