Jane Lurie, one of Surprising Lives’ popular guest authors, is not only a spectacular photographer but also a stunning storyteller.
With her recent blog post, House On Fire, a tribute to Greta Thunberg, our planet, and climate change, she has managed to visually punctuate the urgency of this topic.
I hope her post moves you as much as it did me.

“Adults keep saying we owe it to the young people, to give them hope, but I don’t want your hope. I don’t want you to be hopeful. I want you to panic. I want you to feel the fear I feel every day. I want you to act.
I want you to act as you would in a crisis.
I want you to act as if the house is on fire, because it is.” – Greta Thunberg

“For way too long the politicians and people in power have got away with not doing anything at all to fight the climate crisis and ecological crisis. But we will make sure that they will not get away with it any longer. We will never stop fighting, we will never stop fighting for this planet, for ourselves, our futures and for the futures of our children and grandchildren.” – Greta Thunberg

“You say you love your children above all else and yet you are stealing their future in front of their very eyes.” – Greta Thunberg

“This ongoing irresponsible behaviour will no doubt be remembered in history as one of the greatest failures of humankind.” – Greta Thunberg
Thank you, Jane.
Lovely picture, thnx to share
Lovely pictures.
Thanks, Jane is a spectacular photographer. 🙂
Hi Amanda, I am very pleased that this tribute to Greta’s work and to our fragile planet moved you. Thank you so much for sharing my post. Your interest in my work is much appreciated. 🌍
I’m in tears reading this — just as I was when I heard Greta Thunberg deliver that speech. I am in an almost constant state of panic, and strangely the most comforting thing is to know I’m not alone in that.
Oh Su, I hear ya and I’m so with you.
